On May 19, the final tournament of the Come on, Let’s Play! project kicked off in Schaslyve

Within two days, they will determine the strongest sides among eight children’s teams in two age categories - U10 and U12. The first day of the competition saw the group stage meetings, with all participants playing one another.

Even fight

In the U10 group, three teams scored the same number of points - six each. The tournament regulations helped to distribute the final positions: at the same number of points, the team with girls playing gets the higher standing. Thus, Donbass (Donetsk) and Kvadrat (Lviv) claimed the top two spots, and tomorrow they will meet in the final, with bronze medals being challenged among Black Star Junior (Kramatorsk) and Laurus (Kurakhove). We want to highlight separately Artem Belik’s four goals vs Laurus and a goal by the Lviv side’s captain Darya Letyahina.

Unconditional leaders

In the U12 group, the favoгrites were determined in the first matches - Izumrud (Kramatorsk) and Hirnyky (Dobropillya). After defeating two other rivals in the quartet, they locked horns in the final round to decide the future of the top spot. 3-0 - the confident success of the team from Dobropillya, who scored the maximum number of points (9) and scored the most goals (16). Tomorrow, Smarahd and Hirnyky will meet again, but in the final match. The third spot will be challenged by Proryv (Severodonetsk) and the competition debutants Khvylia (Mariupol).

The best game

The most spectacular on the first day was a duel in the U10 age group between the Donetsk-based Donbass and the Lviv-based Kvadrat. The teams showed a high the high level of performance and a great willpower. At the start, Ruslan Vysochanskyi brought the Lviv team in front, however, the Donetsk team showed mettle and initially evened the score (with Savelii Tilinin scoring), and then they snatched the victory after a precision shot by Artem Dezik. 2-1 win in favour of Donbass.

Scouts are impressed

Coaches and scouts of the FC Shakhtar Academy closely watch the young talents taking part in the Come on, Let’s Play! project. They are present at every game of the tournament and notice many players.

Valeriy Rudakov, curator:

- A good and right project, which helps children, instilling the passion for football in them. I want more and more boys and girls to be engaged every year. Together with the scouts, we watched all the teams and already decided which of the guys we’d like to invite for trials. I want to say that there are some players who stand out with their skill and deserve the right to try themselves at the Academy. We’ll invite them to training sessions and matches, we’ll give them a chance to prove themselves.

Serhii Kravchenko, scouting coach:

- The tournament is held at a good level, featuring eight different cities and towns - from Donetsk to Lviv. And looking at the excitement and desire of children to play football in the Come on, Let’s Play! project, I want its geography to expand further. I’ve got the most positive impressions from the guys. There are some very good boys who have strong qualities, and if they wish they could become footballers. I also want to mention the girls. Women's football is gaining worldwide popularity; in many countries, they have a practice of girls participating in competitions on a par with boys under the age of 12-13, so this is quite normal and right. The main thing is that children get involved in sports and are healthy.

After the group stage games, a surprise awaited all the players and mentors of the teams involved in the Come on, Let’s Play! project - a trip to the Ukrainian ‘Clasico’. For most of the guys, it was a dream to visit the stadium and watch the clash between the Ukrainian football giants. Today, the dream came true. As soon as tomorrow, May 20, they face the main test of the season – the finals and competing for the 3rd spot.
