On November 16, Ukraine national team played their fourth UEFA Nations League game
Andriy Shevchenko’s men, who won the group early a month ago, have met with Slovakia in Trnava.
A few squad changes
For the first time in 9 years, it was not Andriy Pyatov who took the place between the sticks for the national team in competitive games, with Denys Boyko keeping the goal. From the off, three Miners appeared on the pitch - Sergii Kryvtsov, Mykola Matviienko and Taras Stepanenko. The Shakhtar academy graduate Andrii Boryachuk.
Start won by the hosts
The first half was not successful for the Ukrainians. Early in the game, the Slovaks took the lead (with Rusnak excelling after a free-kick took deflection). In the 14th minute, Andriy Shevchenko was forced to make a substitution, with Plastun coming on for Kryvtsov. The Yellow-Blues operated with three central defenders, but created next to nothing in attacking terms, while the opponents had a few more chances, converting one of them - Boyko’s mistake after Kucka’s strike made it 2-0.
Spectacular shots
It seemed that the visitors revived the plot immediately after the break, when Konoplyanka produced a great shot from 18 metres, after receiving Karavaev's pass. However, the tight score did not last long - just five minutes later, Zrelak no less impressively backheeled the ball to secure the third goal of his side, with Mak later fired it home from outside the boх to the bottom right corner – 4-1. The Shakhtar midfielder Viktor Kovalenko got about half an hour of match time.
On November 20, the Ukraine national team will lock horns with Turkey in Antalya. The friendly game kicks off at 19:30, with the live broadcast to be aired by the Futbol 2 channel.
