Shakhtar claimed their 10th win in the 2018/19 UPL campaign. For the first time ever, Taison has not appeared on the pitch due to injury. The champions played deploying two strikers - Junior Moraes and Olarenwaju Kayode.
Opponents
For the sake of achieving the result against the league leaders, Desna used the 5–3–2 formation for the first time this season. It was Maycon who struck on target on both occasions, one of which was victorious. The Brazilian has netted the second goal from the 80th to the 90th minute and brought the team a win (the previous time, he did so vs Hoffenheim in the UCL round 1, 2-2).
Stepanenko’s appearance
After getting short-handed, Paulo Fonseca fielded Stepanenko instead of Khocholava in the dying minutes. Taras, when necessary, either operated in tandem with Kryvtsov or advanced into the same line with Maycon, taking an important part in orchestrating attacks, completing 11 out of 11 passes at the average passing distance of 18.8 metres.
