Shakhtar U19 played Zorya U19 away in the postponed Youth League round 17 game

The Miners (48 points) compete for the championship and remain the only undefeated league team. The Luhansk side (32 points) are sitting in the fourth spot after starting the league campaign with three victories and a draw.

Well-deserved goal

The opening minutes saw some midfield challenges, but gradually the Miners managed to take the ball under control and set up the play in the opposition half. The first scoring chances occurred near Zorya’s goal midway through the first half: Biblyk was close to hitting the top corner with a high ball, Yakuba did not reach Sudakov’s corner delivery, and then, the same Biblyk made an attempt from the goal area, with the host keeper parrying it away. Andres Carrasco’s outfit managed to achieve their aim in the 37th minute: Stanyslav Biblyk earned a spot-kick and Artem Bondarenko confidently sent the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot, making it 0-1.

Unbeatable Trubin

In the second half, the Orange-and-Blacks changed their formation for counterattacking and could double the score early in the second half: Biblyk played as an attacking spearhead, twice producing dangerous shots from the edge of the box, with the ball ending up in the goalkeeper’s hands on both occasions. Zorya responded with their own scoring chances, but Anatolii Trubin first parried away Belotserkovets’ effort from about seven-metre range and immediately saved Alefirenko’s finish. In the 71st minute, the hosts remained short-handed - Alefirenko had earned a red card. However, this did not affect the Luhansk outfit’s will to equalise and in the final stretch, they all launched an all-out attack. They had a chance to save the match five minutes away from the final whistle, but Trubin proved magnificent again - the Shakhtar goalkeeper parried away two point-blank range attempts, not allowing the hosts to excel in this clash.

1-0 - Shakhtar U19 defeated their Zorya counterparts in the hard-fought clash. The Miners will have the next game vs Arsenal-Kyiv on April 26.
