Shakhtar U19 played Karpaty U19 away in the Youth League round 15

Having 33 points, the Miners have been competing for league leadership, while the Lviv team (25 points) sit in the fifth spot in the table. The sides’ first-stage encounter ended in a 2-1 win by the Orange-and-Blacks. However, the team of Andres Carrasco missed the previous round and dedicated that time to their preparation for the game in Lviv. In the Donetsk team, we want to mention the start of Mykhailo Khromei who has turned 17 just recently, as well as the starting lineup appearance of the U21 team player Bohdan Viunnyk.

Magic in the dying minutes

As happens in the meetings between these opponents, the whole match saw a mainly level and tight competition. The hosts disturbed Turbaievskyi on a couple of occasions: Kozak struck wide, with the goalkeeper coping with Suschak's attempt. The Miners responded with shots by Viunnyk (wide) and Abdullaiev (saved by the keeper). The first chance occurred only nearly thirty minutes into the game - the same Abdulla sent his attempt from under the defender to the far corner, with Horokh rescuing the Lviv outfit. Shakhtar stepped it up toward the end of the first half, with Abdullaiev sending the corner kick on over the crossbar from close range, with Kobak firing it still wide from a long range. And yet, the Orange-and-Blacks left for the break on top. Kobak won the ball and fed Symenko, who delivered it into the penalty area, with Abdulla Abdullaiev hitting the back of the net with his precision header - 0-1.

Injury-time denouement

The second half began at a slow pace, with the teams exchanging early attempts by Yakuba and Suschak - the goalkeepers rescued their sides on both occasions. Karpaty U19 tried to revive the play with a series of substitutions, with scoring chances still occurring mainly near the Lions’ goal. Kobylianskyi produced a long-range attempt – Horokh stopped it, with the shots by Hulko and Abdullaiev being blocked by the defenders. But in the 83rd minute, the opponents’ rare attack against the Donetsk team ended in a foul in the penalty area, with Karabin netting an equalizer from the spot. Both teams rushed forward to snatch victory, and the denouement came in the second minute of stoppage time: Svityukha escaped from two opponents only to be brought down, with Abdulla Abdullaiev confidently converting the spot-kick to score his 18th league goal.

2-1 - Shakhtar U19 defeated Karpaty U19 in a tense clash. According to the results of the season’s first stage, the team of Andres Carrasco won 12 of 13 games.

On December 11, at 12:00, the Shakhtar youngsters will have the final duel this year - the UEFA Youth League encounter with Atalanta U19 in Vysokyi.
