Shakhtar will play Eintracht in Germany in the UEFA Europa League round of 32 return leg

February 21, Frankfurt, Frankfurt Stadion, 19:55
Live broadcast on Futbol 1 channel

Before the match

Shakhtar were preparing for the return leg on the pitch of Sviatoshyn training complex. After the first meeting, the Miners have got some personnel losses: Taras Stepanenko serves has been suspended due to his sending-off, with Serhii Kryvtsov missing the second leg due to yellow cards earned. However, Dentinho and Valerii Bondarenko have returned to the general group several days before the game in Frankfurt.

In their history, Shakhtar have never tied in Germany, having five defeats and four wins. Curiously, in February, the Orange-and-Blacks met twice with Schalke 04 at the same stage of the UEFA Cup/Europa League (in 2005 and 2016), claiming away wins on both occasions (1-0, 3-0) and advancing to the next stage.

Opponents

After their visit to Kharkiv, Eintracht hosted Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga. Immediately before the half-time whistle, da Costa scored a goal, with the Frankfurt side still failing to keep the winning score - Zakaria used the space between the thirds and fired one past Trapp from about 20 metres. This has been the fifth draw in a row for the Eagles. The team moved down to the 7th spot, letting Bayer and Wolfsburg climb higher, but the struggle for European competitions is still ahead.

Adi Hutter fielded the following line-up in the game: Trapp, da Costa, Hinteregger, Hasebe, N’Dicka, Kostic, de Guzman, Fernandes (Willems, 78), Gacinovic, Rebic (Jovic, 84), Haller (Paciencia, 89). We want to mention rotation in the attacking third (Haller did not play vs Shakhtar, with Jovic sitting on the bench for nearly the whole game vs Borussia) and in midfield (Rode was left out of the player list, de Guzman played for 90 minutes).

Previous meeting

On February 14, at the OSK Metalist, several important events at once fit into the opening stages of the match. In the 7th minute, Hinteregger put the visitors in front after playing a set piece, but very soon Shakhtar equalized - Marlos converted the spot-kick earned by Moraes. In the 11th minute, the Miners remained short-handed after Stepanenko earned his second yellow card.

To differ from the first half, when Eintracht made attempts only through the shots of Rebic and Gacinovic, early in the second half they increased the pressure of their flanks, with Costic finishing off a Jovic high ball. Frankfurt had a number of other chances, but Shakhtar were the ones to score: Patrick and Moraes actively participated in the goal-scoring attack, with Taison securing a 2-2 draw.
