A year ago, the team had already won gold medals, this time defending the title under the guidance of coaches Volodymyr Samborskyi and Stanyslav Dyachenko without suffering any defeats in the championship. In the main round, the Miners won 15 out of 18 games (including 3 draws), topping their group with 48 points. The goal difference is also impressive: 76 goals scored and only 3 goals conceded. In the play-offs, the Orange-and-Blacks proved stronger than Mariupol-based Azovstal (1-1 and 6-0).

Finish spurt

Meetings of the final stage of the season only confirmed the dominance of Shakhtar in the U16 age group. Starting with a major victory over Dynamo (3-0), the team also demolished UFK-Karpaty (4-0) and Zmina-Obolon (5-0), defeating Dnipro in the semi-finals (2-0).

In the final match at the Bannikov UTK in Kyiv, the Miners played Morshyn-based Skala. The match saw a noticeable advantage of the Orange-and-Blacks, who opened the scoring as early as in the 9th minute - Mykyta Makhinya drilled a powerful stunner into the roof of the net. 10 minutes later, Oleh Ocheretko’s attempt took deflection and another ball hit the back of the opponents’ net, a second ball flew in, with Mark Mampassi sealing the win early in the second half by heading home a free-kick.
