In Kharkiv on October 11, the national team of Ukraine had their sixth UEFA Euro 2020 qualifier

The starting line-up featured seven Shakhtar players: the goalkeeper and captain Andriy Pyatov; the defenders Serhii Bolbat, Sergii Kryvtsov, and Mykola Matviienko; the midfielders Taras Stepanenko and Marlos; along with the striker Junior Moraes.

Moraes’s spectacular assist

As early as the third minute, Moraes could have scored his first goal for the national team if he had not sent the ball high after being fed by Sobol. A bit later, Stepanenko headed the ball into the near post, with Marlos providing Zinchenko with a cool pass only to see the latter strike it wide. Andriy Shevchenko’s men fully dominated the play. The result was just a matter of time, with the hosts netting the opener in the 30th minute – Malynovskyi played one-two with Moraes (Junior skilfully backheeled the ball into the penalty area) and beat the keeper to make it 1-0.

Malynovskyi’s brace, Konoplyanka’s app

After the break, the Lithuanians did not have a single chance to tip the scales in their favour. After nearly an hour of play, the Yellow-and-Blues earned a free-kick a metre away from the penalty area, with Malynovskyi planting the ball into the left corner of the net, making it 2-0. Right after that, Yevhen Konoplyanka came on for Marlos. Just like all his teammates, he was active until the final whistle, creating a late chance just to see it go wide.

Ukraine have 5 wins and 1 draw now, with any number of points earned in the two remaining games to secure a Euro 2020 berth for Ukraine. On October 14, Andriy Shevchenko's men will host Portugal in Kyiv.
