The Orange-and-Blacks scored maximum points early this season (21 after claiming 7 wins in 7 games, while Lviv are sitting in the middle of the table with 13 points. Andres Carrasco's team score an average of over 4 goals per game (goal difference of 30–5). We want to mention that during the FIFA break, as many as 13 Miners played for Ukraine’s select teams in different age groups.

Exchange of goals in our favour

The hosts tried to surprise Shakhtar with the early aggressiveness and high pressure, but the Donetsk outfit soon figured out this pressure and, taking control of the game, opened the scoring early. Already in the 15th minute, Roman Yakuba put through Simenko with a great pass, with Oleksandr making it past the defender and hitting the corner of the net to make it 0-1. The initiative still belonged to the visitors, however, midway through the first half, the Townspeople carried out an effective attack, with Vovkun equalising from the edge of the box. And yet, the Orange-and-Blacks left the pitch with an advantage. Initially, Maloyid rescued Lviv from Sudakov’s powerful free-kick, with Mykhailo Rudavskyi finishing off a great move involving Abdullaiev and Sudakov and volleying it home in the 45th minute - 1-2.

Fighting through the last minute

The second half turned out not as productive, but no less intense. The Lviv side were not going to give up without a fight and imposed their game in every part of the pitch, with the Miners trying not to depart from their game, relying on some blistering attacks. At the same time, Andres Carrasco, keeping in mind the upcoming European club cup game, was forced to rotate the squad so as not to overload some players and give match practice to other players: Kapinus, Buleza, Matveev, and Svityukha were fielded. The latter could have salted the game away, but he was registered offside after Sudakov’s subtle pass, then he tried to send Abdullaiev’s pass into the near corner only to see the hosts being rescued by the keeper. In the very end, Abdullaiev himself got on the end of Kapinus’s cross to plant it into the back of the net just to be registered offside by the referee and to have his goal unruled.

2-1 - Shakhtar U19 defeated Lviv U19. On October 22, at 13:00, the Miners will have a UEFA Youth League round 3 home game in Vysokyi, where they are going to take on Dinamo Zagreb U19.
