On September 27, the Kharkiv Regional State Administration chairwoman Yuliya Svetlichnaya, Shakhtar manager Luis Castro, his assistant Darijo Srna, footballers Sergii Kryvtsov and Marlos had a joint visit to the Regional Specialized Orphanage called Zelenyi Hai (Green Grove)

Acquaintance and gifts

The visitors saw the living conditions of the children, visited the medical rehabilitation rooms (exercise therapy, physical training, hydrotherapy, pool) and the music room in which the kids staged some dancing performance.

Yuliya Svetlichnaya presented the Zelenyi Hai orphanage with medical equipment and children's games. Luis Castro, Dario Srna, Sergii Kryvtsov and Marlos brought gifts from the club - soft toys, T-shirts, and sketchbooks.

“Together with Shakhtar, we have visited an orphanage housing the children with special needs,” pointed out Yuliya Svetlichnaya. “Not a single diagnosis, not a single disease can cancel the fact that a child needs love. Making the world a brighter and kinder is simple - you just need to reach out and touch the lives of those who really need it. Currently, every child here is provided with all the necessary assistance by both health workers and educators. And, of course, it’s always nice when there are some patrons and volunteers who help the kids and give them the opportunity to enjoy socialising and some positive emotions.”

The Zelenyi Hai Regional Specialized Orphanage is located in the village of Vysokyi near Kharkiv. Here, they provide medical and social services to orphans, the children left without any parental care, with some psychophysiological development and mental disorders. They bring up children between 3 months and 7 years old. As of now, the Zelenyi Hai orphanage is home to 82 kids, including 23 children with disabilities.

Luis Castro, manager:

“We are always very happy to have such meetings. To bring something new into the lives of children is a great privilege for us. We can give them moments of joy and will always do so. Of course, we are just choked with emotion. I would like to look at the world differently and, perhaps, not to experience this kind of sensations. Despite the fact that we give the kids our love, we will not be able to change anything fundamentally, as we can’t replace their mums and dads. They always feel the lack of parents. They will always ask themselves throughout life: why did this happen to me? We have a really important mission - to help them avoid the sadness that lives in their hearts. The people work here having great responsibility. Thank God there are homes where they help children. Otherwise, what would have happened to them? We want to thank all the staff at the orphanage for that. I hope you will have all the strength to continue helping them. And I want to wish these children to see a better world than the one we see these days. We hope they will be happy in their lives. And we all need to learn from what is happening now and somewhat change the future. Perhaps our everyday problems are nothing compared to what these children experience. Thank you so much for the warm reception. I wish you happiness!”
Sergii Kryvtsov, defender: “The children gave us positive emotions, and we tried to please them. We met a great and tight-knit team that helps kids. This confirms the fact that heroes live among us”
“Shakhtar is not just a football club. We help the people who need it, and children. And this is neither the first nor the last time,” said the Shakhtar assistant manager Darijo Srna. “I want to thank the employees of the orphanage who are engaged in such hard work. I always say that children are our future, they need to be helped and their way to be paved. Shakhtar will continue to organise similar meetings, which are really delightful for everyone.”

The meeting ended with a series of joint photo calls. The coaches and football players returned to the hotel to continue preparing for tonight’s Premier League round 9 game Shakhtar vs Vorskla that kicks off at the OSK Metalist at 19:00.
