On August 31, the Hat-Trick Arena in Ivano-Frankivsk played host to Shakhtar Talent Day

96 boys born in 2006 and 2007 from Ivano-Frankivsk, Burshtyn, Truskavets, Kolomyia, Kharkiv, Rakhiv, Khmelnytskyi, Chernivtsi, Slovyansk, Lviv, Drohobych, Uzhhorod, Odesa, Lutsk, Ternopil and other places of Ukraine took part in the event jointly organised by Shakhtar Social and the Shakhtar Academy.

Dream to play for Shakhtar

Shakhtar Talent Day gives children the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in the presence of a scouting coach and fulfil their dream by receiving an invitation to the Shakhtar Academy.

“Training at the FC Shakhtar Academy, the country's best football academy, is the dream of many Ukrainian guys,” says Inna Khmyzova, the Director of Shakhtar Social. “We created the Shakhtar Talent Day to give children the opportunity to show their sports capabilities and pass the trials by Shakhtar scouts. For the Club Academy, this event is a good opportunity to find young talents and, possibly, to discover future football stars.

The event has a clear schedule: the participants are divided into 6 groups of 16 people and hold a number of short games in the 4 by 4 format, and in the second stage the lineups are formed according to the points scored. Prizes from Shakhtar Social were given to Denys Yurikov, Nazarii Belei, Tymur Koval, Roman Klyufynskyi, Vasyl Dovhanich, Oleh Horbatyi, Andrii Omelchyshin, Mykyta Filin, Maksym Basarab, and Orfei Tymchenko, as well as Mykyta Novhorodskyi, the young footballer from Slovyansk who covered the longest distance.

Regardless of the number of points scored and the final results, the guys’ performance is assessed by the Shakhtar Academy scouting coach. Based on the results of the Talent Day in Ivano-Frankivsk, 8 children will be invited to trials.

- This is not my first time in this kind of events, and there are increasingly more talents each year. In Ivano-Frankivsk, guys from the western region of the country are particularly widely represented,” points out Vasyl Popov, a coach and scout at the FC Shakhtar Academy. “We made a note of the names of several children - one or two of them will definitely join the Shakhtar team of players born in 2007. They will undergo trials, the preparation stage, plus we plan to bring them to participate in a tournament in October or November. I think that the guys are ready to compete and will strengthen our team. I am content: we’ve seen those who we needed to see. I think that we should hold the Talent Day in every regional centre.”

We want to add that Ivano-Frankivsk is the sixth city to have hosted Shakhtar Talent Day. In 2018, the club organized similar events in Kharkiv, Lviv, Mariupol, Chernivtsi, and Zaporizhya. Thanks to Talent Day, Maksym Derkach - one of the leaders of last season’s Shakhtar U14 - became the Champion of Ukraine and the Striker of the Season; and Mykola Oharkov from the Come On, Let’s Play! project in Dobropilia was the main defender of the same “golden” team last season.
