Opponents
Lech Poznan are the seven-time champions of Poland, they won their most recent title in 2015. To differ from the 2017/18 season in which the Blue-Whites won the third spot, they dropped to the eighth position the following season. Moreover, they finished in the same spot within the regular part and did not rise any higher in the playoff round.
Now, after 20 rounds, the Poznan side are sitting in the fifth place, 7 points adrift of the leading Legia. No team has been capable of gathering a stable winning pace in the Polish league: all of them suffered at least 4 defeats (our opponents have 5 defeats).
The manager of Lech Poznan is the 47-year-old Pole Dariusz Zuraw who worked as an assistant to Maciej Skorza a few seasons ago, later heading the second team. He took charge of the senior team on March 31, 2019: in 33 matches under him, the Railwaymen had 14 wins, 10 draws, and 9 defeats.
Updated backbone, the same top scorer
In the summer, the club signed up a new goalkeeper - the Dutchman Mickey van der Hart. The Slovak central defender Lubomir Satka, the Croatian defensive midfielder Karlo Muhar and the Lech academy graduate Tymoteusz Puchacz who is back from loan at Katowice, quickly blended in with the squad. The top scorer, just like last season, is the Dane Christian Gutkjär – he boasts 11 goals after 18 league games.
Playing them for the second straight year
Last January, Shakhtar and Lech also met in Belek. Back then, the Orange-and-Blacks confidently defeated the opponents 3-0. In the 31st minute, Junior Moraes scored one after a corner delivery, with Manor Solomon chalking up a goal and an assist for Larry Kayode. In general, the Miners met with the Polish clubs many times. Thus, before Lech, our team defeated Piast 3-1 in 2016, beating Cracovia 2-0 in 2017, also defeating Legia, Wisla, Lodz Widzew, and Tychy earlier.
