Player in the spotlight: Ismaily

Thursday, March 26, 2020

We continue the column about the performance of Shakhtar players in the 2019/20 season

After Junior Moraes, the team’s main left-back Ismaily comes into the spotlight.
202 games in 7 years
Ismaily made his debut for Shakhtar nearly 7 years ago, on May 19, 2013. In that match vs Metalurh Zaporizhia (3-3), he scored a goal. And this season, the Brazilian has reached the mark of 200 appearances in all competitions. Only Pyatov, Stepanenko, Taison and Marlos have made more appearances for Shakhtar.
Ismaily missed only 4 meetings in the current league season: Cipriano played instead of him three times and Matviienko appeared at his position once. Ismaily took part in all European games and was replaced only once - in Germany vs Wolfsburg.
In the UPL, the Brazilian won about 70% of defensive challenges - this is the best figure among left-backs. Isma showcased the same level last season. Even in the Champions League and the Europa League, where everyone gets more challenges in the defensive phase, this figure is still fine - 66%.
None of the Ukrainian League full-backs have been involved in the game like Ismaily, if we consider the total number of passes he made (1,263). The Brazilian has an important role in orchestrating Shakhtar’s attacks. He is the best in the league in terms of the number of touches in the box (100). He is followed by the teammates Moraes (98) and Tete (88).
Ismaily is among the league’s top 5 players in terms of assists. The left-back provided Moraes with three assists, also providing Marlos with one assist and scoring two goals himself (vs Karpaty and Olimpik). At the same time, he tops the UPL in terms of pre-assists (4), being among the top ten players for crosses (68).
