Shakhtar central midfielder Alan Patrick is another main character of the Player in the Spotlight section

The Brazilian joined Shakhtar back in the summer 2011, but he managed to fulfil his potential only a few years later. In January 2017, Alan returned to the club after being away on loan at Flamengo, having made more than 100 appearances in addition to his another 8 early season apps.

Performance growth

The current season is Patrick’s most fruitful one at Shakhtar. Firstly, he has scored 6 goals in 27 games which is more than in the previous 2 years aggregately (5). Secondly, his European competition performance stands apart. With Paulo Fonseca’s Shakhtar, Alan made his international debut and made 10 appearances, never scoring a goal though. In the 2019/20 season, he started scoring in the Champions League (vs Dinamo in Zagreb) and in the Europa League (he netted goals in both Round of 32 legs vs Benfica).

Ball work

Patrick is the last one of the top five Shakhtar players for the number of passes (1,629) with an accuracy of 91%. Only Stepanenko and Kryvtsov deliver the ball into the final third of the pitch more often. Also this season, the Brazilian has provided 3 assists vs Karpaty, Atalanta, and Dinamo Zagreb). Talking about European competitions, a separate topic is his performance in Manchester (1-1), where Alan did not set a record for the number of passes in 90 minutes, but their accuracy was 94% along with the fewest lost balls (only 5 vs an average of 8.77 in the European stage). He also produced similar figures in Wolfsburg (93%, 7).
