Shakhtar Social launches STEM educational football programme in Ukraine
On November 20, World Children's Day, Shakhtar Social won a grant from the UEFA Foundation for Children and joined the programme supported by the European Football for Development Network (EFDN).
What is STEM?
STEM is an acronym for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Statistics tell us there are currently more than a million job vacancies in the STEM industry, while at the same time only 16% of college students graduate in STEM fields or subjects. Demand for STEM jobs has increased and continues to grow, with many new fields and professions emerging each day.
Learning through football
The STEM educational programme helps children learn how to program, make codes, and understand technological devices through football experience. In Europe, it is being implemented on the EFDN platform with financial support from the UEFA Foundation for Children.
Apart from Shakhtar Social, the project has been supported by Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven, Legia Warszawa, Ludogorets, the charities of Newcastle United, Aberdeen and Greenock Morton.
