Shakhtar played Rukh away in the postponed UPL MD2 game
Shakhtar have had their second game in the recent four days. Compared to the previous match, Luis Castro made only some pinpoint changes to the starting XI: Valerii Bondar appeared at centreback, with Marcos Antonio, Tete and Yevhen Konoplyanka playing in midfield from the off.
Warm-up before the fight
The Orange-and-Blacks got off to an active start and created a chance in the very first minute. They brought Tete one on one with Bandura, but the host goalkeeper won the duel against the Brazilian, with Taison's finish going wide. Shortly after that, Tete had another excellent chance - Shakhtar winger shattered the woodwork while trying to send Korniienko’s cross home. Rukh immediately responded with dangerous attempts by Mysyk (inches off the post) and Brikner (Trubin saved it). Midway through the first half, Konoplyanka decided to produce a long-range shot - the ball went high and Yevhen got injured and was replaced by Marlos. Shortly before the break, Moraes could have brought the visiting side in front but for the Lviv defender who managed to put his foot in the ball’s path.
Tension in every minute
Early in the second half, events developed rapidly. Taras Stepanenko appeared in the 47th minute after the break and scored an own goal while trying to stop an opponent’s cross. Three minutes later, the Miners were left short-handed (Bondar earned a second booking for a foul in midfield). Luis Castro's outfit rushed to attack while the Lviv team just parked the bus to keep the result. The Miners managed to rip open this defence in the 68th minute: Taison excellently forwarded the ball and passed it into the penalty area to Marlos, with the latter bursting into an open space and lobbing it past Bandura – 1-1. The host keeper stopped Taison’s attempt to cross it into the net. In the last minute, Marlos could have brought victory to his team but for Duts who blocked his seven-metre attempt by a sliding tackle. In stoppage time, Fernando produced a dangerous header (high), with Kondrakov responding with a wide effort. 1-1 – Shakhtar tied with Rukh.
On September 27, Shakhtar will have a league match vs Olimpik. The match at the NSC Olimpiyskiy kicks off at 17:00.
