Exactly a year ago, on 15 April 2020, Shakhtar launched its club television channel
From day one, Shakhtar TV was aired on OLL.TV in a test mode, and shortly after that it became available to the subscribers of Volia, satellite operator Xtra TV, the platforms of MEGOGO, Sweet.tv, Divan.tv and of Shakhtar Club.
In addition to the archive matches of Shakhtar in the Champions League, Europa League (UEFA Cup) and in the Ukrainian Championship, the channel's broadcast schedule was filled with the own production cocntent. Fans watched 30 live streams of Shakhtar U21 matches and the first team’s friendly games. There are 10 projects currently in rotation: Shakhtar News bulletins are streamed on weekdays (a total of 160 issues), as well as ‘One on One with Olha Kalenchuk’, ‘Shakhtar Legends’, ‘Life Rules’, ‘Inside the Match’, ‘Vocabulario Shakhtario’, ‘Team’, ‘Personal Things’, ‘10 Questions’, ‘What’s in the Box?’. During the year, Shakhtar TV released 150 hours of video content of its own production.
FC Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin gave his take on this year of operation of the club TV channel:
- First of all, I want to say that our club has a mission - to redefine the boundaries and standards of excellence in football. The channel creation is just about that. We were the first club in the country to launch a football club channel. By and large, this implies the essence of our club: we set new boundaries and standards of excellence in football not only on the field, but also off it. Club TV is about that. A year has passed, a lot of work has been done. I would like to congratulate all reporters, all those who are behind the scenes. If a year ago we started it with just archive videos, presently we produce a lot of interesting programmes, with lots of news about the club life, live steams of U19 and U21 games, broadcasts of our first team games on the day following their tour. We still have a lot to do, but we’ve done a lot of work this year. I want to once again congratulate everyone on this and thank them for their work. But the most important thing is appreciation by our fans. I want to wish everyone to be watched by as many people as possible, as many of our fans as possible, so that we could seriously compete with the leading sports channels in our country.
- How important is it for the club to have its own TV channel image wise?
- This is one of its major attributes. These days, there are many different kinds of media, they are mostly Internet-related: YouTube, Telegram channels and so on. But television is television. It gives us more opportunities to show the emotions existing in football. Unfortunately, a Telegram channel or the same YouTube sometimes can’t quite recapture it. That is why television lives and will live on. For us, this is a big step in the history of our development - the launch of the club channel. A year ago, I think, a very important event happened, which we are celebrating today as a historical fact, as a created product, the channel that streams interesting programmes, and this is the most important thing.
- What are the development plans?
- To have people watching our channel, we need to always be on the wave, we need to come up with something new, to have new faces, new ideas in the frame, and to always be well versed and feel what is happening in the sports media these days. If we do that and keep up with the times, we will succeed.
