After scoring a double vs Vorskla, Shakhtar forward Junior Moraes reached a milestone of 100 goals in the Ukrainian league

At Kyiv’s Opera Hotel on April 6, FC Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin handed Moraes a commemorative T-shirt featuring the number 100.

Sergei Palkin, Shakhtar CEO:

“This event is of historical significance. For the first time in our history, Shakhtar's playing footballer has amassed 100 goals in the Ukrainian league. This is quite a significant achievement. Junior made it, let's call it, to the club of five that includes Shatskykh, Rebrov, Seleznov and Vorobei. But Moraes has a much better scoring rate. And I want to add that he scored most of his 100 goals for Shakhtar. I would like to congratulate him and wish him to continue in the same vein so that the number of his goals for Shakhtar will increase with each game. For me, every goal by Junior is really significant. A forward is required to score goals. The whole team has been working on that so that we’ve got as many goals as possible. When we have them, then we have victories, and this is the main thing that we need.”

Junior Moraes, Shakhtar forward:

“I’m very happy. This is a very special moment for me. When I came to Ukraine being a very young man, I dreamed of having a beautiful career here and achieving many goals. 100 goals in the Championship show that everything is going right and that the work bears fruit. Shakhtar play attacking football and we always create lots of scoring chances. I want to thank all the teammates who provided assists to me. My first goal for Shakhtar in the match against Desna was probably very important. It gave me the confidence for notching up many more goals later.”

The top scorer

Junior Moraes has been playing in Ukraine since the 2012/13 season. In the Premier League, he netted 35 goals for Metalurh Donetsk and 22 goals for Dynamo Kyiv. He spends his third season at Shakhtar and has notched up 43 goals. In the previous two seasons, Junior won the title race (19 and 20 goals, respectively).

In all tournaments with the Orange-and-Blacks, Moraes has made 103 appearances and scored 59 goals. His average scoring rate is 0.57, being the best figure among all players in the history of Shakhtar who have made more than a hundred appearances.
