On the Vorskla vs Shakhtar matchday in Poltava, Shakhtar goalkeeper Andriy Pyatov visited the Rudkovskyis family
The event was held by Shakhtar Social in support of the #Morethanfootball Action Weeks 2021.
Fans of all ages
Oleksandr and Iryna Rudkovskyi have been raising 11 children aged six to 20 in a family-type orphanage. The family do not miss a single match of Shakhtar on TV, especially as three kids are displaced persons from the Donetsk region.
Among the few things that the 13-year-old Yurii had after leaving his hometown was a Shakhtar scarf. Pyatov's visit was a long-awaited event both for him and the rest of the children in the family. Andriy presented the guys with footballs, footwear backpacks, scarves, a branded club T-shirt bearing his autograph. He said that the whole team would put their signatures on it and promised to pay them another visit.
“I got positive emotions from the meeting! We often visited such families back in Donetsk, and I respect them a lot. I’m glad that the club is doing everything possible for the players to see such families, talk to them and help them in some way. Even our presence brings joy to those kids. And the purpose of our lives and the footballers’ work is giving them some positive emotions,” said Andriy Pyatov. “The guys are of different age - I guess, just like in our family, the elder ones are already helping the younger ones. There are many different nuances in life, that’s not just a picture of a happy family. There are enough worries that people don't see. Well done, the parents! I visit Poltava more often than other cities. Moreover, the arena where we hold a Viktor Nosov memorial tournament is just nearby. Now I know that this wonderful family lives here. I will come here knowing that I can bring some gifts or at least just call in and say hello, and I will do that with great pleasure.”
We want to add that for five consecutive years now, Shakhtar has been supporting the #Morethanfootball Action Weeks - a CSR campaign carried out with the support of the European Club Association, the UEFA Foundation for Children, and the European Football for Development Network. In 2021, the campaign is held from March 22 through April 18. Its goal is to show that playing football is affordable for everyone and that it can change lives for the better as a key tool for solving social issues.
