On July 24, Shakhtar women's team claimed their second clean-sheet friendly win

The second opponents of Roman Zaiev's charges at the summer training camp were Ateks Kyiv from the Ukrainian top flight. The friendly format was standard: two halves of 45 minutes each, but the coaches could also carry out reverse substitutions. Compared to the debut match against Yednist, there was one change in the starting lineup: Valeriia Olkhovska replaced Oleksandra Krevska on the field.

Wasted-chances half

The rivals set a high pace, demonstrating their intransigence and desire to seize the initiative. Three yellow cards shown by the referee in the first half clearly confirm this fact. In the third minute, Ateks earned a promising free-kick, however, the strike did not reach the target. Shakhtar responded with a splitting pass by Polina Yanchuk to Veronika Kozhukhar who was a fraction of a second behind the Kyiv goalkeeper Karashchuk who turned into the first-half protagonist. Actively rushing out, Nadiia repeatedly backed the defenders. And on the occasions when she was just helpless, the Orange-and-Blacks lacked accuracy. After a spectacular slaloming run of Yanchuk down the right wing and the subsequent cross to the edge of the goal area, Nadiia Veherych headed the unchallenged ball high. Yelyzaveta Molodiuk was also close to success while finishing off the attack with an attempt towards the far corner only to see the ball miss the post by mere inches. Shylova set the pace for Ateks's attacks. Midway through the half, the unmarked Alina made a near-corner attempt just to see Denyshchych come to the Orange-and-Blacks’ rescue. Mariia stopped another attempt of Shylova late in the first half by palming the ball away from the near corner.

Winning double

In the second half, Shakhtar's dominance in possession became tangible, with the action moving to the Kyiv side’s half of the pitch. There were many crosses and corners, but the Donetsk keeper just got bored without any job to do. The chances near Ateks’s goal occurred one after another. After a throw-in in the 63rd minute, Yanchuk shot along the goal line only to see Kozhukhar fail to send the ball into the back of the unguarded net. Kozub’s half-strength attempt was stopped by the keeper literally on the goal line. Then Yanchuk burst into the penalty area thanks to her individual brilliance, beat the goalkeeper, but failed to roll it in from a tight angle ... Roman Zaiev's women still managed to turn their edge into goals. In the 67th minute, Kozhukhar delivered a targeted pass to the edge of the goal area, where the unmarked Yanchuk bundled the ball home, making it 1-0. Ateks immediately got a chance to level it from set play, but Denyshchych reacted to the effort by Natalia Chendei. And in the 85th minute, Shakhtar sealed the win. Kozhukhar imposed imposed her game onto defenders on the right-hand side of the penalty area, with Yanchuk volleying the ball into the back of the net, perhaps being the player of this match. The second friendly ended in a 2-0 win.

This match is part of the preparatory process of Shakhtar women's team. The league season kicks off on August 15 when Roman Zaiev's ladies will meet with Bahira in Kropyvnytskyi.
