Short-handed Shakhtar beat Lviv away

In comparison with the first round, Oskar Ratulutra made three substitutions in the starting lineup: instead of the injured Sholar, Losenko and Honcharuk, Siheev, Hluschenko and Pohorilyi took the field from the off. The match against Lviv is Artem Veklenko’s 20th appearance, while Oleh Pushkaryov made his debut for Shakhtar U19.

Svityukha’s initiative

In the early stages, Shakhtar created two chances through the efforts of Veklenko, but in both cases he failed to complete the attack with a goal (goalkeeper save, wide). The hosts responded with the only free-kick attempt by Panchyshyn – just wide. It the 26th minute, the visitors opened the scoring: Svityukha took the initiative, beat several defenders and was brought down in the opposing penalty area, with a spot kick being awarded and effortlessly converted by Denys himself to make it 0-1. Then the Lviv outfit managed to push the play away from their goal, however, they did not create any scoring opportunities at the other end of the field. Shortly after that, Siheev found himself within a shooting range inside the box only to send the ball high. And late in the first half, Pohorilyi missed an excellent opportunity.

Ten-men demolition job

At half-time, the Miners had a substitution in midfield: Losenko was replaced by Hluschenko. Early in the second half, the teams exchanged chances: Shakhtar responded with a long-range attempt by Svityukha to the header by the Lviv player Yuvkhymets, with the goalkeepers showing great reflexes on both occasions. Midway through the second half, Kristian Bako was forced to leave the field, and defensive midfielder Oleksandr Rosputko replaced him at left-back. Even the difficult staffing situation did not prevent the Miners from continuing to dominate because Pohorilyi had two straight one-on-one occasions. In the 69th minute, the Orange-and-Blacks were outnumbered, with Hulko earning his second yellow card. In the very next episode, Yuvkhymets might have translated the numerical advantage into a goal, but Puzankov played confidently on the goal line. Even being short-handed, the visitors managed to double the lead: Pushkaryov brought Svityukha through with a splitting pass, Denys burst into the penalty area and sent the ball right inside the far corner, making it 0-2. In the stoppage time, Honcharuk sealed the win by hitting the back of the unguarded net through Pohorilyi’s assist.

Shakhtar claimed their second league win and gained the maximum points. In the next round, Oskar Ratulutra's team will host Oleksandriia on the 6th of August.
