Shakhtar U19 team will face their Lviv peers in the first away game in the current youth league campaign

July 29, Lviv, Skyf, 16:00

Match build-up

Despite the personnel changes during the offseason, Oskar Ratulutra's lads confidently started the league campaign, defeating Inhulets 3-1 at home (goals were scored by Sholar, Siheev and Pohorilyi). The Miners were preparing for the encounter with Lviv as usual, holding one training session a day. The head coach of the team noted that all the players from the squad list will be given match practice, therefore, some debuts in the first-choice lineup may take place in the upcoming match. Artem Sholar was injured recently and will not be able to help his teammates (the expected recovery period is 4 to 6 weeks).

Ivan Losenko, midfielder:

"We were preparing for the match as usual. We know that all the games will not be easy, so we set up for winning each of them. It’s also important to win taking into account the league campaign kickoff as the team need to get the winning streak underway. We started the last season unsuccessfully. This year, we’ve already managed to demolish Inhulets, so it’s important to extend this trend."

Opponents

The changes also affected the Lviv-based youth team: in the offseason, Taras Hvozdyk became the new head coach after replacing Oleh Kolobych with whom the Blue-Golds finished in the eighth spot with 35 points last league season. The Lviv outfit started this new season with a narrow 2-1 win at Mariupol (with Zadorozhnyi and Mudryi netting goals). The team attack by actively using flanks and high balls, but start attacks mainly with low balls.

Head-to-head record

In the Youth Championship, the opponents had five encounters (goal difference is 11-6). The Orange-and-Blacks won three times, with two matches ending in a draw. Interestingly, both ties happened last season.
