Shakhtar in the mining town

Chervonohrad is a mining town in the Lviv region with six operating mines. Shakhtar Social has been developing its Come On, Let’s Play! project there since September 2018. About 200 girls and boys aged seven to twelve play football free of charge being guided by coaches at two playgrounds.

Bohdan Viunnyk came to visit the guys who train on the pitch of the local school No. 8, played football with them, handed them gifts from FC Shakhtar and the project’s general partner DTEK, took pictures and signed autographs. The Shakhtar forward also visited the sights of Chervonohrad: the Miner monument, the Shakhtar stadium and one of the mines.

“In Chervonohrad, we have a few Come On, Let’s Play! grounds where we conduct training sessions for 200 children with the support of DTEK. It is an interesting mining town in Western Ukraine, and many people there play and like football. Here, they’ve been waiting for our player for a long time, and we are delighted that Bohdan Viunnyk took part in the session together with the kids,” said Inna Khmyzova, the director of Shakhtar Social.

For the fifth year in a row, Shakhtar have been supporting the #Morethanfootball Action Weeks 2021 CSR campaign that is being held from March 22 to April 18 under the auspices of the European Club Association, the UEFA Foundation for Children and the European Football for Development Network. Its goal is to show that football as one of the key tools for solving social problems is available to everyone and that it can change lives for the better.
