FC Shakhtar CEO Sergei Palkin speaks about Luis Castro, his qualities and contribution to the development of young footballers
- I suppose that during these two years we have worked very fruitfully. In general, our first-season performance corresponds to top standards. If we assess the two years, then, by and large, Mister has given us the future in terms of bringing many of our young players to the level where they display some top-quality football. If we consider the game against Real Madrid – it answers all our questions at once. If we analyze the situation: two seasons ago, before he came, we could only hear about those guys, but, unfortunately, we hadn’t seen some of them, many of them. During these two seasons, Castro has done a tremendous job, and today we have the understanding, the vision of our further development. Regardless of the titles that he won, the main title that he claimed is upbringing our talented young footballers. I think this is our major achievement.
- What are your most vivid memories of Mister? Maybe the brightest matches?
- The brightest and most important memories are about the kind of person he is. That’s first and foremost. Over the past two years, I have never heard anyone say a bad word about him in any relationships context. He is the Man with a capital M, the Gentleman with a capital G, and he is the Mister with a capital M. This is the most important thing that I personally experienced during these two seasons. Talking about the results on the pitch, of course, that’s Real Madrid. The unforgettable match and unforgettable emotions in the history of our club - we will remember them for a long time.
- Saying goodbye to Mister, what did you wish him?
- Firstly, I wished for his professional career to develop in the same successful way. I wished him more sporting and personal achievements. We’ve sat together for quite a while today, and a few days ago we also talked. We discussed the vision of football, our team, the future, both ours and his. It was an interesting conversation. Naturally, he will not stop there. He wants to move on and to win titles. I would like to wish him just the best of luck and all the best. I told him: we will follow you very closely and thoroughly because we are interested in you, because we liked you here. You are fully consistent with our philosophy and vision of the development of the club. You, as a professional, as a specialist, have been highly ranked by us, so we will follow you.
- Fans are now interested in the fact of how long Shakhtar will stay without a coach. Who will replace Mister?
- We are working on this issue. I hope that before the start of the training process, before the training camp kickoff, we will have a coach and coaching staff.
