Shakhtar hosted Dnipro-1 in the UPL MD24 game
The Miners approached the game against the backdrop of two successive defeats and a series of injuries of the first-team players: the team could not count on Junior Moraes and Valerii Bondar, Marlos also got injured. It is worth mentioning the start of David Khocholava and Dentinho as a centre-forward.
Major events before the break
The teams started the meeting at a calm pace. In early stages, Maycon (denied by Douglas) and Stepanenko (wide) made attempts at goal, with the Dnipro outfit responding with a dangerous cross by Taylor, but Kryvtsov was the first on the ball to prevent Dovbyk from scoring. The most interesting things happened in the first half of the match. The Miners began to play more actively and energetically, and in the 24th minute they opened the scoring: Patrick challenged Batahov and brought Dentinho through on target, with the latter sending the ball right inside the left corner – 1-0. Anatolii Trubin immediately joined in the action, parrying away Dovbyk's dangerous attempt, plus Khocholava did not allow Taylor to make an effort. The Miners managed to build up on their success just a few minutes away from the half-time break. Yurchuk rescued the visitors from Dentinho's threat, and then the Dnipro-1 halfback Batahov made another passing error, Dentinho intercepted the ball and fed Tete who fired it into the back of the unguarded net – 2-0.
Just few chances
The second half of the match turned out to be less spectacular. The major threat was posed by set-pieces: Matviienko’s header went high after a corner-kick, and Yurchuk coped with Solomon's free-kick. Tete had a couple of opportunities: on one occasion his effort was saved by Douglas, on another occasion the Brazilian was blocked by Dubynchak. In the dying minutes, Luis Castro made a number of substitutions by fielding Fernando, Heorhii Sudakov, Marcos Antonio and Bohdan Viunnyk. But the Dnipro outfit managed to pull one back in stoppage time: after a cross Trubin parried away Khoblenko’s first attempt, but Oleksii finished off his second attempt.
2-1 - Shakhtar defeated Dnipro-1. The Miners will play their next match vs Minaj on May 6. The meeting will take place at the NSC Olimpiyskiy.
