Shakhtar U19 suffered a defeat at Inter U19 on the UEFA Youth League MD5

Shakhtar approached the MD5 game in the third spot in the group with six points, while Inter were topping it with 10 points. After the match against Rukh, Oskar Ratulutra fielded Farina instead of Savchenko at centre-back, and Bako replaced the injured Losenko in midfield.

Poor start

In the 4th minute, the hosts opened the scoring, taking advantage of Shakhtar defenders’ mistake in their own half of the field: Peschetola hit the back of the net from close range. A few minutes later, Abiuso put pressure on Farina near his own goal and brought Peschetola through on target again, with Puzankov coming to his side’s rescue this time. Towards the middle of the first half, the Miners levelled the play and created a few opportunities near the opposing goal only to see Hluschenko's free-kick and Veklenko's effort bring no threat. That said, Honcharuk's attempt was going just where the spiders live, with the Milanese keeper recsuing his side though. Then Hulko was supposed to equalise, but Illia’s header whizzed just inches off the crosspiece. Towards the end of the first half, Inter responded with a mid-ranger by Nunziatini – Puzankov showed his great reflexes on the goal line. As a result, the Miners controlled the play most of the time, but still left for the break losing narrowly.

Goalless half

Early in the second half, Shakhtar continued attacking and dominating it, but the first dangerous chances still belonged to Inter. Peschetola brought Abiuso through only to see the latter’s effort go wide. A couple of minutes after Peschetola’s delivery, Cortinovis made an attempt that was denied by Puzankov. In the 79th minute, Shakhtar wasted a great opportunity after a counterattack – Pushkaryov launched an attack down the left flank, but failed to apply a powerful finish to round it off. In the 84th minute, Oskar Ratulutra took a chance and fielded Pohorilyi instead of Bako, switching to the formation featuring two strikers. Until the end of the meeting, the Miners were unable to effectively pass the Italians' defensive third to level the score.

Shakhtar suffered a defeat at the hands of the Milan outfit and lost their chance of reaching the knockout stages. In the final round of the UEFA Youth League group stage, the Miners will host Sheriff U19. And their next domestic league match will take place away vs Inhulets on November 27.
