Shakhtar women's team took part in a training session for the participants in the Come On, Let’s Play! project

For the first time ever, the footballers attended an inclusive training session at Gymnasium A+ in the capital. The session was attended by 10 girls with physical and mental disabilities who regularly come to train there.

After warming up and practising high balls, the participants in the session switched to football exercises: they dribbled around cones and took shots at goal. The session lasted for about an hour. At the end, the Shakhtar footballers took a group photo with the girls and gave the latter autographs.

“Olha changed very much after starting to play football, she got more open and has less complexes compared to her state before these sessions,” says the mother of one of the Come On, Let’s Play! participants Olena Fedoryshyna. “This training session is just super! Both in terms of the weather and the girls who arrived. This is a useful experience for Olha – for her to develop.”

This is the first social experience for Shakhtar footballers, they are ready to continue helping children. Participation in the event allowed the team to take a break from the routine work and get charged with positive energy.
We just wanted to smile, give them positive emotions and accept such emotions from them!
“At first I thought that there might be some awkwardness, but the girls are so positive! They immediately ran up to us, they liked us, we felt some kind of return energy from them, so we just wanted to smile, give them positive emotions and accept such emotions from them!” said the goalkeeper and captain of Shakhtar women's team Mariia Denyshchych.

Shakhtar Social has been implementing the Come On, Let’s Play! project for girls with disabilities with the support of UNFPA Ukraine and Special Olympics Ukraine since 2019. The sections operate in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Vinnytsia and Mariupol, with trainings being held on Saturdays and Sundays. The sessions are attended by 80 girls with mental disabilities.
