Shakhtar U19 suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Inter U19 on the UEFA Youth League MD2

Shakhtar U19 approached the match as the group leaders after beating Sheriff in the first round, while Inter U19 shared the second position with Real Madrid U19 after a head-to-head tie. Oskar Ratulutra fielded the same starting lineup against the Italians as in the opening game.

One goal difference

The first 15 minutes passed without any chances for both teams. Shakhtar dominated possession of the ball and tried to overcome the Italians' defence by playing combinational football, while Inter spent more time tackling. Shakhtar created the first dangerous chance in the 19th minute after a set piece when Losenko bent the ball and Hulko was close to finishing it off. In the next attack, Kozik headed it wide. Inter responded with a counterattack ending in Abiuso's effort from a 25-metre range – Tvardovskyi stopped it. In the 31st minute, the visitors opened the scoring: Carboni delivered the ball from the left wing, and Casadei was the first on the ball in the box to head it right home. In the 38th minute, Losenko could have equalised after his free-kick attempt, but Rovida managed to turn it for a corner at the very last moment. Late in the first half, Casadei again received a pass from the left flank, but this time the player kicked the ball that shattered the woodwork.

Fruitless dominance

Early in the second half, the teams exchanged scoring opportunities: Losenko promisingly burst into the opposing penalty area and fed Buleza, but the linesman flagged him offside. Then, there was some set-play commotion near Shakhtar's goal which Abiuso took advantage of and unleashed a dangerous shot from a tight angle only to see Tvardovskyi parry it away. In the 61st minute, Kapinus was completing a counterattack with a cross into the penalty area, with the ball nearly hitting the target after taking deflection off a defender. A few minutes later, Honcharuk sent a the ball high from outside the penalty area. Until the end of the match, Shakhtar continued keeping the ball under control and dominating the pitch, with Oskar Ratulutra's team still failing to equalize.

Shakhtar lost to Inter, with this defeat being the team’s first this season. In the third round on October 19, the Miners will host Real Madrid, and on Saturday of October 2, they will face Dynamo Kyiv in an away league match.
