Shakhtar women's team head coach Roman Zaiev spoke about the two-week cycle of preparation for the league game vs Dnipro-1
Shakhtar women's team held a training session on the Academy field in Shchaslyve. Under the supervision of Roman Zaiev, 16 footballers focussed on game situations and finishing.
They opened the session with a starting run, then the girls practised pace-raising exercises. Then, in two groups, they worked on ball control and passing quality. The second part of the training session was dedicated to long-range shots and one-touch moves with the subsequent approaching the target.
- Today the team spent a lot of time on practising set-pieces, what’s the reason for that?
- Probably, this is a consequence of the last game in which we had lots of wasted chances. Quite naturally, on the eve of a good match, we tried to focus on the finishing phase.
- It’s noticeable that the atmosphere in the team is excellent. Are you satisfied with the dedication of the girls?
- The girls approached it very emotionally and in a good mood, they were attentive to my comments. It’s necessary to keep this attitude for the next match.
- After the game against Vorskla, the fans were pleasantly surprised by the scoring performance.
- The main objective is to win and claim three points so that we can feel confident before our future games. Of course, there are many issues, I would like the conversion percentage to be higher, but it doesn’t always work out the way we want. Anyway, three points is our priority compared to the number of goals scored.
- Recently, you have been playing once in two weeks. Is it difficult to work at this pace?
- We adjust the training process based on the fixtures calendar. If we understand that we’ll have one meeting a week, we dedicate the first part of the cycle to fitness, and the second one to set-pieces and finishing.
