Shakhtar hosted Vorskla on the Premier League MD15

Coach of the Miners Igor Jovicevic made a few shifts in the team line-up: Taylor appeared at right-back, Mykhailichenko took his usual position on the left, Bondar and Matviienko operated in the centre. Stepanenko, Sudakov and Kryskiv were in the middle of the field, Ocheretko and Mudryk played as wingers, with Traore performing as a centre forward.

The match was started two hours later than the scheduled time due to the air raid alert in Lviv Oblast caused by massive missile attack of Ukrainian territory by Russian troops.

Sudakov’s first goal

The beginning of the meeting was with a slight advantage of the Orange-and-Blacks trying to play the ball in the rival half of the field through a short pass. The Poltava side were active in pressing and sought their opportunity of quick counter-attacks which is a traditional thing for Viktor Skrypnyk teams. After all, the hosts managed to open the score as a natural result: in the 27th minute, Mudryk passed the ball to Heorhii Sudakov from the left box corner who moved to the centre and made a stunning shot putting it under the right goalpost (1-0). This is the first goal by Sudakov in the season in addition to his 6 assists. And Mykhailo Mudryk has provided his ninth assist. The teams were trying to change the numbers until the haft-time, but they left for the break with minimum advantage of the Pitmen.

Thriller until the last minutes

The second half of the match turned out to be more spectacular and efficient. Already in the 47th minute, Shakhtar players doubled the score difference: Bondar passed to Traore, the Burkinian covered the ball with his body and passed it to Dmytro Kryskiv who made it past the defender in the penalty area and rolled it through the keeper (2-0). But Vorskla was not going to give up as well: Seferi finishes the delivery from the right flank and pulls one goal back. The Miners could have returned the handicap immediately when the referee awarded a penalty for the foul on Stepanenko, but Traore’s weak shot into the centre was taken by the visitors’ goalkeeper. And in the 75th minute, the Poltava outfit completely came back to the game, with Cheliadin performing a long-ranger right into the corner and equalizing the score. The Orange-and-Blacks started to grind out the victory and succeeded five minutes before the end of the game. After Taylor’s cross, the ball hit Vorskla player’s arm and the referee pointed to the spot once again considering the VAR information. This time it was Mykhailo Mudryk who made a powerful shot below the crossbar leaving Reznik no chance at all!

3-2 – the Miners defeated Vorskla in impressive and intense match. Shakhtar end the first part of the season with this match. Igor Jovicevic’s side enters the winter break on the second spot in the UPL tournament table with 30 points after 13 games. The championship takes a break until March 2023, and a little earlier, the Orange-and-Blacks will begin their path in the UEFA Europa League.
