November 23, Lviv, Arena Lviv, 14:00
Live broadcast will be available on Setanta Sports

Match build-up

Shakhtar is coming to the finish line of the first UPL round on the 2nd spot in the table: the Pitmen have 27 points after 12 matches played (8 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss, goal difference: 26–9). Herewith, Igor Jovicevic’s men have to finish the first part of the season with a run of difficult meets: they faced Zorya (2-2), who are third, and the Premier League leader Dnipro-1 (1-2) in the previous rounds. It was the match against the Dnipro team where the Miners lost for the first time in the current championship and interrupted the 26-match winning streak in the UPL.

The Orange-and-Blacks approach the game against Vorskla with the same problems on the wings: laterals Voktor Korniienko and Yukhym Konoplia, as well as wingers Marian Shved and Oleksandr Zubkov, dropped out due to injuries of various degree of severity. Sergii Kryvtsov was forced to leave the field after the injury during the previous meeting. All other players prepare for the match. This year’s Shakhtar top strikers Mykhailo Mudryk (9 goals and 8 assists) and Danylo Sikan (6 goals) are among them. Heorhii Sudakov’s contribution in the form of 6 assists provided to his teammates should be also remarked.

Opponents

Vorskla aimed to fight for the top positions in the UPL, having invited Viktor Skrypnyk as the head coach and seriously changing the squad. Currently, they have mixed results: the team are on the 6th spot of the table after 14 rounds with 18 points (5 wins, 3 draws, 6 losses, goal difference: 16-17). The Poltava-based team can book draws with Dynamo (1-1) and Dnipro-1 (1-1) as an income; they defeated Kolos (2-1) on the previous matchday. It is interesting that the White-and-Greens are one of the two teams in the league that played all the matches of the first part of the season without postponements.

We would like to draw attention to the leaders of Vorskla among which are young goalkeeper Dmytro Reznik, experienced forwards Denys Oliinyk and Roman Stepaniuk, who participated in all 16 matches of the team this season (2 matches are played in the UEFA Europa Conference League). The same Stepaniuk, North Macedonian Taulant Seferi and Brazilian Marlyson are the most prolific footballers (each scored 3 goals). The main central defender of the Poltava team, Serhii Yavorskyi, will skip the match against the Miners due to suspension.

Match background

Shakhtar and Vorskla played 53 matches in the Ukrainian League: the Miners won in 40 of them; 10 games ended in draw; the Poltava-based side won 3 times. Total goal difference (108–30) is also in favour of the Orange-and-Blacks.

Previous meeting

On October 23, 2021, Vorskla entertained Shakhtar in Poltava. The teams attacked actively in the first half, but did not manage to score. Everything was decided by the Miners’ substitutions: Tete, who has took the field after a half-time, scored the opener in the 65 minute; another player from the bench, Manor Solomon, made the final result in the 78th minute. 2-0 in favour of the Pitmen.

Shakhtar vs Vorskla match will be officiated by the judging panel headed by Mykola Balakin. Assistants: Oleksandr Zhukov and Dmytro Zaporozhenko. VAR system will be used during the game (Viktor Kopiievskyi will be the referee).
