Shakhtar met with Metalist in the Ukrainian league round 5
The teams entered the Arena Lviv field with Ukrainian flags. The Miners were wearing special shirts with a picture of marine hero Mykhailo Dianov to honour all Azovstal defenders, some of whom are still held captive. Before the game start, the Anthem of Ukraine was played, then a tribute was paid to the war victims with a moment of silence.
Head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Igor Jovicevic fielded 10 internationals in the starting XI, who have joined the team ahead of the game. Danylo Sikan is one of them. His 3 goals helped the U19 team to advance to Euro 2023.
Sikan’s hat-trick and Mudryk’s 3 assists
The Pitmen took the lead from the opening minutes getting closer to the opponent goal step by step: the defender blocked Zubkov’s attempt and Konoplia shot above the crossbar. Shakhtar managed to score the first goal in 18th minute, when Danylo Sikan responded to Mudryk’s corner kick and head into the near corner making it 0-1. The progress was increased in the 30th minute: partners delivered the ball to Sudakov who rolled it forward and Sikan hit the empty goal – 0-2. The beginning of the second half was calm from the both sides and new stage of activity started after some substitutions in the middle. Substitute Lassina Traore scored another goal for the visitors in the 72nd minute: forward developed a counter-attack finishing it by himself inside the left goalpost and making it 0-5. Shortly after, Bondarenko received pass from the Burkinian in the penalty area and was stopped by the foul from the hosts: Mudryk stepped up to take the spot-kick, but Rybka blocked his attempt into the bottom corner. Metalist managed to score a consolation goal at the end of the match: Chidomere headed the corner kick home.
