Shakhtar played the away match against Dnipro-1 in the 18th round of the Ukrainian Women’s League

Shakhtar are among the top three in the championship with 36 points. Roman Zaiev’s team have won the last 3 matches with a total score of 16-1. Dnipro team came to this meeting on the sixth spot of the table with 23 points.

Advantage in moments, but without goals

The opening minutes passed in a close competition without any particular intensity. The host team looked a bit more active, but they could not disturb Anastasiia Klimova with anything, except for long-range shots. The Orange-and-Blacks tried to show a more combinational play, performing prolonged attack from their own goal, and sometimes adding quick wing short cuts. In the middle of the half, the visiting team seized the initiative and created the first truly dangerous opportunities. Victoriia Holovach first shot from the left corner of the penalty area in the direction of the far top corner (the ball flew in centimetres from the post), then the captain of the Miners went one on one – the goalkeeper of Dnipro team blocked a shot, and attempts by Semeniuk and Molodiuk to pursue rebounds were unsuccessful. The teams left for a break with a 0-0 score.

Molodiuk’s winning brace and Klimova’s saves

The second half started from the moment near the gate of Shakhtar: Kunina decided to make an attempt from outside the penalty area, and the ball flew just above the crossbar. In response, Vykaliuk shot from the right wing, Molodiuk flicked the ball on to Zaborovets, but Lidia shot straight into the goalkeeper of Dnipro team. And in the next attack, Holovach had one more chance, but her volley went over the crossbar. Shakhtar players increased the pressure and finally achieved their goal: in the 67th minute they earned a spot-kick in the centre in 30 meters from the goal, and Yelyzaveta Molodiuk opened the scoring with a direct shot to the left bottom corner – 0-1. The host team rushed to fight back, and Klimova already saved the Orange-and-Blacks after a difficult long-range shot, and then turned the opponent’s shot from the penalty area into the crossbar and prevented a follow-up. The visiting team also had the opportunity to widen their lead: Shot by Zaborovets was saved by Riabovil, Vykaliuk failed to turn her teammate’s wing cross right home from a few meters, and Holovach went to meet the goalkeeper again, but did not beat her this time either. However, in the added time, the captain acted as an assistant: Holovach put Yelyzaveta Molodiuk in one on one with a splitting pass, beat Riabovil and rolled the ball into an empty net.

2-0 – Shakhtar women’s team won an away victory over Dnipro-1 thanks to a brace by Yelyzaveta Molodiuk, who is the team’s top goalscorer in this season with 15 goals.

In the next round, on May 6, Roman Zaiev’s team will host Ateks on their field.
