On February 1, Shakhtar played a friendly match against Slovenian champion Maribor

Considering that this match was the second one in two days for Shakhtar, Igor Jovicevic applied the squad rotation, releasing the line-up close to the starting eleven. Heorhii Sudakov’s debut appearance in the game at this training camp and Giorgi Gocholeishvili’s return to the right defensive wing should be noted.

Three goals by Ukrainians with a brace by Kryskiv

From the beginning of the match, the Miners looked more active and managed to quickly convert the advantage into a goal. In the 15th minute, Oleksandr Zubkov quickly moved from his own wing to the centre, passing several opponents, and made a long-range shot past the near post – 1-0. Already in the next attack, Sudakov scored in a similar style, but the referee did not count the goal due to offside. The team managed to exploit a success in the 34th minute. Sudakov played a corner kick with Dmytro Kryskiv, and he turned around on the left edge of the penalty area and hit the far bottom corner with a clear shot – 2-0. The Slovenes did not give up and organized a response – at first Ilicic’s shot was saved by Trubin, but in the 39th minute the keeper did not help when Ivan Brnic hit the right top corner with a long-range shot. And yet, before the break the Orange-and-Blacks had the upper hand: the ball got stuck in penalty area of the Mariborians, until Dmytro Kryskiv picked it up and netted a brace, powerfully shooting under the crossbar – 3-1.

Return of the opponent and a spectacular goal by Bondarenko

In the beginning of the second half, the advantage of Shakhtar was nullified. In the 48th minute, the Slovenes scored a strange and very questionable goal. Kronaveter curved the ball into the goal from a corner kick, while Bozic on the line prevented Trubin from playing. And in the 51st minute, the partners put Brnic in one on one, and he equalized the score. Having recovered from such start, Igor Jovicevic’s team went forward again. Substitutes added fresh strength; the coaching staff renewed the entire line-up during the half. But the representative of the starting eleven managed to score the fourth goal: in the 71st minute, Shakhtar kicked-off on the right wing, and Artem Bondarenko hit the far top corner with an incredible shot from the corner of the penalty area – 4-3. However, even here the unyielding Slovenian champion was able to equalize the score. Bozic proved to be the most agile in the goalmouth and headed the ball into the net. 4-4 – an extremely spectacular draw between Shakhtar and Maribor.

In a week, on February 8, Igor Jovicevic’s lads will play the last 2 friendly matches of the winter pre-season. On the final day of the training camp, Shakhtar will play against Bosnian Sarajevo and Dinamo Tbilisi.
