On February 1, Shakhtar will play their fourth friendly at the winter training camp
The Miners are to face Slovenian champion Maribor in a friendly game.

Being formed in 1960, Maribor is a 9-time champion of Slovenia and the most awarded club in the country (9 domestic Cups and 4 Super Cups). The team won another gold of the Slovenian First League in 2022, getting 3 points ahead of their competitor and Shakhtar’s opponents a few days earlier, Koper, at the end of the season.
The 2022/23 European club cup season was not successful for the Slovenian champions: the Mariborians defeated Shakhtyor Soligorsk (0-0, 0-2) in the Champions League qualification, but lost to Sheriff in the second round (0-0, 0-1). Finnish HJK kept the Violets out of the Europe League group stage (0-2, 0-1) and Romanian Cluj knocked them from the Europa Conference League (0-0, 0-1). So, the team focused on the domestic competitions in the autumn and they are currently in the fourth spot in the table, but almost without any chances to defend the title being 15 points behind the leaders. In this season, Maribor is trained by 50-year-old Croatian Damir Krznar, who has worked with Dinamo Zagreb earlier. Young footballers play a noticeable role in the squad: 20-year-old forward Zan Vipotnik (11 goals), 22-year-old Roko Baturina (7), 24-year-old Marko Bozic (5 goals and 5 assists). Marko Tolic is a leader of the outfit according to the goal+pass system (6 goals and 9 assists), however he is now recovering from injury.
The second part of the season starts on February 12, so the team’s preparation is coming to an end. Krznar’s men managed to play 5 friendlies in the winter without losing any of them: they defeated Aluminij (2-0), Serbian Cukaricki (2-1) and Dynamo Kyiv (2-0), as well as tied with Slavia Sofia (1-1) and Shakhtar U19 (1-1). Roko Baturina and Miner Kyrylo Siheev scored in the match against our U19 team.
