Shakhtar faced Inhulets in Lviv in the UPL round 29

Head coach of the Orange-and-Blacks Marino Pusic applied extensive squad rotation after the victorious Cup final. Tvardovskyi played in the goal, laterals Vinicius Tobias and Azarov and centre-backs Bondar and Faryna formed the defensive line, Kryskiv, Bondarenko and Sudakov (with the captain’s armband) acted in midfield, Alisson and Newertton were the wingers, with Kaua Elias in the centre-forward role.

Bondarenko’s early goal and the hosts’ response

The teams had hardly entered the game when the Miners already took the lead: in the 2nd minute, Azarov crossed to the goal-area line, and Artem Bondarenko ran out from behind the defenders and headed the ball into the net – 0-1. The Petrove team rushed to fight back and created several dangerous opportunities: Mohylnyi first hit Faryna, and then shot wide, and Piatov sent the ball over the crossbar with a long-range shot. However, in the 17th minute, Vasyl Kobin’s side managed to equalise the score: after Volokhatyi’s shot from the edge of the penalty area and deflection, the ball flew into the right corner of the goal of the Pitmen. In the middle of the half, the opponents exchanged chances: Pushkarov’s close-range shot was saved by Tvardovskyi, and Newertton moved from the flank during a counterattack and shot under the left post, but the visiting team were also saved by the goalkeeper. Kaua Elias had a good chance to score when he shot from the left edge of the penalty area after Bondarenko’s pass, but Zhylkin saved again. A few minutes before the break, the Miners made a forced substitution: Nazaryna replaced Vinicius Tobias.

Sudakov’s winning brace and another goal from Bondarenko

The opening stages of the second half of the match passed at a calm pace, but gradually Shakhtar players gained momentum, and their attacks became sharper. And if Kaua Elias shot over the target from a great position after a spectacular pass from the captain, then in the 66th minute Heorhii Sudakov himself received an excellent pass from deep from Alisson, dealt with the defenders while dribbling and accurately shot under the goalkeeper – 1-2. And after another 5 minutes, the Ukrainian midfielder scored a brace: Alisson crossed from the right wing, Palamarchuk intercepted, but Heorhii Sudakov sent the ball into the net from the centre of the penalty area – 1-3. Meanwhile, Marino Pusic made 3 more substitutions, fielding Arroyo, Kevin and Traore. Later, Tsukanov and Shved entered the game (due to the head injury of the Petrove team goalkeeper, the teams were able to make 6 substitutions each). The Miners continued to move forward, and then Alisson’s shot was blocked by Inhulets defenders, and Traore tried to shoot after Azarov’s cross, but also off target. Kevin also failed to score, as the ball flew too high after the Brazilian’s shot from the penalty area line. Nevertheless, towards the end of the game, the Orange-and-Blacks managed to score again: in the added time, Kevin dribbled the ball and rolled it to Artem Bondarenko for a shot, the latter hit the unguarded net.

4-1 – Shakhtar confidently defeated Inhulets in the penultimate round of the championship.

They will play the final match of the season in Lviv on Saturday, May 24, against Rukh.
