Shakhtar youth team faced their Poltava counterparts in the U19 National League round 12
Shakhtar U19 head coach Oleksii Bielik selected the following line-up for the clash with Poltava: Bahlai took his place in goal, Strilchuk, Verhun, Harabazhii and Sheleketa formed the back line, Smetana, Tsukanov and Tiutiunov were in midfield, Petruk and Zubrii operated as wingers, while Kanteh took the centre-forward position.
Early advantage
The Orange-and-Blacks immediately took control of the ball, exchanging passes between the lines and trying to break down Poltava’s compact defence. Tsukanov created the first dangerous chance, sending the ball just over the bar from outside the penalty area. The next long attacking move proved effective: Strilchuk delivered a low cross from the flank into the box for Petruk, who opened the scoring. The Miners kept playing fluidly on the opponents’ half, and Petruk could have added another contribution when he beat his marker on the wing and crossed for Kanteh – the centre-forward’s shot was saved by the goalkeeper. The visitors sat deep in low and mid blocks, so Bahlai’s goal faced little danger. Meanwhile, the Pitmen actively used the flanks to progress into the final third and doubled their lead after a corner routine. Harabazhii successfully chose a position, reached the ball first and beat Bezprozvannyi. Just before half-time, Kanteh had a chance to make it three when he won an aerial duel following Tiutiunov’s cross, but his header went over the target.
Chornenkyi’s debut and playing on top
In the second half, the pattern of the game remained the same, Shakhtar U19 continued to have complete control. Early in the half, Tiutiunov found himself in a great position but shot straight at the goalkeeper. Later, after a run down the flank by Petruk, Smetana had a chance, but Bezprozvannyi came to the rescue once again. Eventually, the Miners succeeded: following a corner delivery, Verhun got his name on the scoresheet. After that, the Orange-and-Blacks’ head coach made several substitutions, giving playing time first to Sereda and Balakai, and later to Harmash and Chornenkyi, for whom this U19 league match marked his debut. Towards the end, the Pitmen created a few more promising chances, but the scoreline remained unchanged.
3-0 – Shakhtar U19 claimed a confident win over Poltava. Oleksii Bielik’s side will play their next league match against Obolon U19 a two-week international break.
