Support for defenders of Ukraine
The RF started a full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022. FC Shakhtar immediately decided to support and help the state and its defenders.
The club provides regular assistance to the Ukrainian military, fulfils the requests of army units for elements of personal protection (plate carriers, helmets, etc.), charging stations, quadcopters, sleeping bags, sets of continuous burning heating stoves, clothing, etc.
FC Shakhtar takes care of defenders of Ukraine and helps their families. In particular, it defrayed the costs of treatment and rehabilitation of Vitalii Shumei and Bohdan Kush, who were seriously injured during the repulse of the armed aggression of the RF against Ukraine.
Vitalii Shumei was the commander of the anti-aircraft missile system in one of the units of the Defence Forces of Ukraine. He received a mine-blast head trauma in August in the Donetsk-bound direction (Avdiivka) and completely lost his ability to move, speak and eat on his own.
After learning this story, FC Shakhtar contacted one of the leading neurorehabilitation centres in the world, the University Hospital of the Institut Guttmann, and made all arrangements with Spanish doctors to provide assistance to the soldier, as well as took the initiative to pay the expenses related to the transportation of Vitalii Shumei and his father to Barcelona (Spain), treatment and further rehabilitation.
At the beginning of November 2023, Vitalii Shumei returned to Ukraine with his father and is currently undergoing rehabilitation in Lviv Oblast.
Bohdan Kush, the cousin of Shakhtar player Marian Shved, made a stand for Ukraine from the very beginning of the full-scale invasion. The fighter received injuries to his hands in the battles near Izium in the spring of 2022 and had to undergo a difficult course of treatment in Barcelona (Institut Guttmann).
After 5 months of rehabilitation in Spain, Bohdan Kush returned to Ukraine and continues his treatment in the Lviv Oblast.
