Bio & Career
Serhii Yashchenko made his competitive start for Shakhtar at the age of 22 and played for the Miners before the end of his playing career. From 1982 to 1995, he made 444 apps at the highest level and notched 40 goals. He ranks third in terms of the apps in the club’s entire history.
Yashchenko grabbed his first trophy in Donetsk in 1983. The team reached the USSR Cup final, where they met with Metalist Kharkiv. A lone first-half goal from Serhii put a seal on a victory for Viktor Nosov’s men. In 1985 and 1986, he was the USSR Cup finalist.
Subsequently, Yashchenko played for Shakhtar wearing a captain's armband. He won the silver medals of the domestic league in 1994 and lifted Ukrainian Cup in 1995.
