Darijo Srna started his professional career at HNK Hajduk Split, turning out to be one of the most outstanding young players in Croatia and attracting the attention of foreign clubs. In 2003, the defender signed a deal with Shakhtar and spent 15 years of his career with the team. During his spell in the orange-and-black jersey, Darijo has become the regular skipper and the living legend of Shakhtar.
Srna is the most decorated player in the club history. With Shakhtar, he won 26 trophies, including the UEFA Cup and 10 league titles. On April 14, 2016, Darijo outstripped Mikhail Sokolovskiy and updated Shakhtar record for the number of appearances (486). Aggregately, the defender boasts 536 apps and 49 goals with the team.
As a sign of tremendous respect for Darijo Srna’s merits, FC Shakhtar has retired the number 33 for the first time in its history.
