In March 2022, the Russian military shot up a car with Hordii’s family. Father and mother died in front of their little son. The boy’s grandparents registered a custody over him.

Shakhtar Social provided the family with financial aid, purchased clothing, furniture and organized a visit of the family to Shakhtar's training session. The boy met with players and coaches, received presents and watched the team train.
