The midfielder Fernando Pedro gave his first interview as the team player
Right after signing the contract, the Shakhtar newcomer shared his emotions, his knowledge of the club and the expectations of his performance for the Orange-and-Blacks.
- Fernando, welcome to Shakhtar! What are you feeling right now?
- Thank you so much! I'm really happy to have signed a deal with such a big club and to have become part of the team. I’m moving to Shakhtar with a great desire and hopes.
- What was important to you while making the decision?
- First of all, the fact that the team play a lot in Europe. Also, there are many Brazilians performing here, and this is a great chance for me to show my best side.
- Shakhtar is well known in Brazil. And what do you know about your new club?
- The team features quite many Brazilians. I can name a few ones: Taison, Ismaily, Fred and Bernard just recently. However, I don’t know anyone personally. Therefore, I’m very glad that I came here and will soon be able to get to know them better.
- Do you know what the word Shakhtar means?
- Yes, those are the people working down the mine. In the state of Minas Gerais I’m coming from, many people work in the mines. And the football club Shakhtar originates in Donetsk, where many representatives of this profession reside.
- At the moment, the national team of Brazil features in the World Cup five players who currently play or used to play for Shakhtar. Does it motivate you?
- This is my dream, and, of course, it motivates me. Everyone is trying to get into the national team, and I’ll do my best to get there.
- What would you like to achieve with the new team and what do you dream about?
- I primarily want to win the confidence of the fans and to claim with Shakhtar as many titles as possible. Plus my dream is winning the Champions League.
- Have you chosen your player number?
- Yes, that’s 99 - the year of my birth. I believe that it will bring me happiness and luck.
- Would you like to say anything to the fans of Shakhtar?
- I'm really happy to be here with you. I’ll do my all to help my teammates. Shakhtar is a great club! I hope we can claim multiple victories.
