History and path to the Conference League

Shamrock Rovers FC, founded in 1899 in Dublin, is the most decorated in their country: 22 Irish league titles (including gold medals in 5 of the last 6 seasons), 26 Irish Cups and several dozen other domestic trophies. The Green-and-Whites also hold the national record among all Irish clubs for the number of players called up to the national team – 64. The team regularly feature in European competitions: they finished 10th in the UEFA Europa Conference League league phase and reached the Round of 32 last season. In the 2024 League of Ireland Premier Division, the Dublin side finished second and earned a place in European qualifying.

2025/26 performances

Shamrock Rovers began their European campaign in the UEFA Europa Conference League qualifying, where they came through 3 rounds, overcoming St Joseph’s (Gibraltar) (0-0, 4-0), Balkani (Kosovo) (4-0, 0-1) and Santa Clara (Portugal) (0-0, 2-1). In the main round of the tournament, they opened with an away defeat to Sparta Praha (1-4), lost their second match at home to Slovenian Celje (0-2) and drew away with Greek AEK in the third round (1-1). At present, the Green-and-Whites have 1 point (goal difference: 2-7) and are 31st in the overall league table.

In the 2025 League of Ireland Premier Division, which concluded in early November, Shamrock Rovers claimed the league title, collecting 66 points from 36 matches (goal difference: 56-33). The Green-and-Whites led confidently throughout the campaign, but almost lost the title in the final stretch, suffering defeat in 4 of their last 5 matches and finishing only 3 points clear of their nearest rivals. Shamrock Rovers played their most recent competitive fixture on November 9, when they defeated Cork City (2-0) in the Irish Cup final and secured the golden double of the season.

Squad and leaders

Shamrock Rovers head coach is 41-year-old Irish specialist Stephen Bradley, who has been in charge of the team since 2016. The captain is 33-year-old centre-back Roberto Lopes, now in his ninth season with the club and already on 338 appearances. The top scorers across all competitions in this calendar year are the experienced forwards Rory Gaffney (15 goals) and Graham Burke (15 goals and 8 assists). Stadium

The Tallaght Stadium was built in the eponymous district of Dublin in 2009. At the opening, a friendly match was played between Shamrock Rovers and Real Madrid, where Cristiano Ronaldo made his debut for the club. Following its most recent renovation, the stadium has a capacity of 10,500. Tallaght is also the home ground of the Republic of Ireland women’s national team.

Head-to-head record

Shakhtar and Shamrock Rovers have never met before. The Miners have only once faced an Irish side in their history: in the 1998/99 UEFA Cup qualifying, the Orange-and-Blacks comfortably overcame Bohemians over two legs – a 1-1 draw in Dublin and a 5-1 win in Donetsk.
