Shakhtar’s next opponents at the Austrian training camp are the German football side Turkgucu. The team was founded in 1975 at the initiative of the representatives of the Turkish diaspora in Munich. The club receives their rivals at the city’s main arena called Olympiastadion Munchen.
Bavarian Cup winners dreaming of the Bundesliga
Turkgucu play in the third division of the German league featuring 20 participant sides. At the end of last season, the Munich team finished 13th. At the same time, the Red-Whites’ management intent to fulfil some ambitious goals – they want to make it to the Bundesliga in a few years’ time. Last Sunday, June 27, Turkgucu won the Bavarian Cup. In the decisive match, they defeated Illertissen 8-7 on penalties (0-0 in normal time).
The average age of the Turkgucu players is 25.6. The club colours are defended by nine foreigners, among whom we would note the Scottish central midfielder Andy Irving. The team are coached by the 44-year-old Polish specialist Petr Ruman, the base formation is 4-2-3-1.
