End of training camp
 
Shakhtar’s training in Turkey is coming to a close. Along with training sessions, Paulo Fonseca's men had a friendly against Ludogorets Razgrad, Bulgaria on January 20. A goal by Marceligno was responded in the second half by the precision shots by Oleksandr Zubkov and Facundo Ferreyra, followed by the closing goal by Joao Paulo (2-2). The meeting with Dinamo Zagreb will complete the test game programme within the first training camp.
 
Vice-champions
 
In the 2016/17 season, Dinamo became the silver medalists in the Croatian league, giving way to Rijeka in the competition for the trophy. Before that, the Blues retained the championship for 11 consecutive years. The team is headed by a 42-year-old Mario Cvitanovic, who used to play in Croatia, Italy, Belgium and Germany. Under his leadership in August, Dinamo were making their way to the Europa League through a qualifying competition, proving weaker than Skenderbeu Korce, Albania in the play-offs though.
 
Leaders
 
In January, Dinamo bid farewell to its experienced defender Leonardo Sigali. The Argentinean, who had spent the longest time on the field in the first part of the season, returned to his homeland. The key performers in the team are the goalkeeper Dominik Livakovic, the right-back Petar Stojanovic, the 19-year-old centre-half Nikola Moro and his contemporary graduate of Barcelona academy Dani Olmo. The undisputed attacking leader is Algerian El Arabi Soudani (11 goals in 15 league appearances).
 
Eighth meeting
 
In 2008, Shakhtar and Dinamo Zagreb locked horns in the third qualifying round of the Champions League. In Donetsk, the hosts claimed a victory through the goals by Darijo Srna and Jadson in the first half, securing their success at Stadion Maksimir (goals by Luiz Adriano, Brandao, Willian and Bosko Balaban). Also, the rivals met five times in friendly matches (3 draws and 2 victories for the Orange-and-Blacks).
