Shakhtar’s opponents in the test match will be the champions of Greece AEK.

Opponents

AEK, which is preparing to celebrate its 100th anniversary (formed in April 1924), is one of the most successful clubs in Greece. The team became the campions of the country 13 times and won 16 national cups. The 2022/23 season ended with a complete triumph of the Athenian Eagles: in the Greek Super League, they finished ahead of Panathinaikos by 5 points (in the end they scored 83 points in 36 matches) and also became the owners of the Greek Cup, beating PAOK in the final. Now, the Yellow-and-Blacks will start in the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League in the new season.

Argentinian coach Matias Almeyda led AEK to the first "golden double" in the last 45 years. For the 49-year-old specialist, it was his debut season not only with the Athenian club, but also his first coaching experience in Europe. The most prolific player of the team in the last season was the striker from Trinidad and Tobago, 25-year-old Levi Garcia, who scored 18 goals and provided 7 assists in 38 matches. The leaders of the team include Mexican central midfielder Orbelin Pineda (10 goals and 4 assists) and experienced Argentinian forward Sergio Araujo (7+9) who is the captain of the Eagles.

AEK has already managed to play 2 friendly matches in the summer pre-season: they lost to Lokomotiva Zagreb (0-1) and defeated the Belgian champions Antwerp (3-0) with goals by Tom van Weert, Zini and Michalis Kosidis.
