Before the match
 
After the games in the Champions League and the Premier League, Shakhtar are about to start in one more competition. Paulo Fonseca’s men are the current Ukrainian Cup title winners, claiming their 11th cup last season.
 
Sergii Kryvtsov and Maksym Malyshev will not take part in the game due to recovery. Bernard, who got injured in Sunday's encounter with Dynamo, will not be able to help the Donetsk team in Zaporizhya either. 
 
Opponents
 
Starting the season not very successfully, Zorya currently have lifted spirits. Yurii Vernydub’s team excellently perform in the Europa League (they beat Athletic Club and Herta). In October, the Miners’ opponents have been delivering great performance in the domestic championship. The Luhansk side heroically tied with Dynamo, initially being three goals adrift (4-4), later claiming away wins vs Stal (1-0) and Mariupol (5-2).
 
Head-to-head record
 
The only Ukrainian Cup meeting between Shakhtar and Zorya took place in the 2015/16 season. On May 21, 2016, the Donetsk team won the final through a brace by Oleksandr Gladkyy. This match was the last for Mircea Lucescu as Shakhtar head coach.
