Preview

On July 9, the Miners will play another friendly in Austria.

Paulo Fonseca’s men will lock horns with Vitesse of the Netherlands. We bring you the game preview.

Opponents

Founded in 1892, the club Vitesse represents the city of Arnhem, located in the eastern part of the Netherlands. In 2017, the Yellow-and-Blacks raised the domestic Cup, beating AZ 2-0, with this trophy being the first in their 125-year history. In the 2017/18 season, Vitesse claimed the sixth spot in the regular part of Eredivisie, winning the knockout phase and securing a place in the Europa League. It is noteworthy that the Miners’ opponents have twice defeated Ajax (2-1, 3-2) during the league season, also claiming a home win at Feyenoord (3-1).

Coach, leaders and newcomers

Back in March, it became known that the head coach Henk Frazer had said goodbye to the club, with Leonid Slutsky to get in charge of the team in the new season. Before that, the Russian specialist worked at Hull City in the English Championship. In the summer, the Arnhemans made a few acquisitions, primarily strengthening the defensive third: from England came Slutsky’s friend Max Clark and the player Jake Clarke-Salter on loan from Chelsea U21, as well as the Danish player Rasmus Thelander from Zurich.

The attacking leaders of Vitesse are Bryan Linssen (16 goals in the last championship) and Tim Matavz (14). Also, the top scorer of the Algerian championship Oussama Darfalou has joined the team.
