Champions 2015

Lech is one of the top Polish clubs, the seven-time champions and five-time domestic Cup winners. By their title victory in 2015, the Poznan side interrupted the championship run of Legia, who continued to dominate the domestic arena and won five titles in the recent six years. The club can be proud of its academy, as they successfully bring the young footballers to a high level and carry out transfers to the top leagues (Italy, England, Germany).

Last season, Lech were the most attended league team (with an average of 20,700 fans present in the stands). The Railroaders play home games at the municipal stadium in Poznan, which has received three games of the UEFA Euro 2012 group stage.

Ekstraklasa’s bronze medalists

Lech won the 2017/18 Polish League main round, being one point ahead of Jagiellonia and Legion, but the tournament format provides for the championship play-offs. The Blue-and-Whites did poorly in it (four home defeats, including vs their direct competitors, with just one away victory over Zaglebie of Mariusz Lewandowski) – they eventually finished third. This season, the Poznan team have the same position in the Ekstraklasa.

New coach and two Portuguese players

Since last November, Lech have been coached by the 61-year-old Adam Nawalka, who is known for his tenure with the national team of Poland. He manages the international line-up, including some leading internationals: the Portuguese Pedro Tiba and Joao Amaral, the Ukrainian Volodymyr Kostevych, the Swiss Darko Jevtic, and the Danish player Christian Gytkjær.

Shakhtar vs Poland

In the 2006/07 season, the Miners made it past Legia Warsaw in the Champions League qualifying round (winning 1-0 at home and 3-2 away). Shakhtar met repeatedly with the Polish teams in friendlies, the last time was vs Cracovia on the training camp in Spain two years ago. Back then, Paulo Fonseca’s men enjoyed a 2-0 win.
