Shakhtar U19 started the competition with a home defeat at the hands of Napoli (1-2). The team of Sergii Shyschenko spent the full time attacking, managing to respond to two goals with only one precision shot by Andrii Kulakov. Before the trip to Manchester, the Miners demolished Zorya Luhansk U19 in the domestic league (5-0). This victory is the sixth in a row for the Donetsk side, who are confidently topping the Ukrainian U19 League. The Orange-and-Blacks have no personnel losses or suspensions.

The City side features players of nine nationalities, with the most experienced being Daniel Grimshaw (11 apps), Brahim Diaz (11) and Demeaco Duhaney (14) – for each of them this campaign is the third.
